Stockholm’s South Way
Söderledstunneln (The South Way Tunnel),
built in 1984, is over 1.6 kilometres long
and serves between 80,000 and 100,000
vehicles per day. Currently the Stockholm
City Traffic Office is completing the final
renovation of the tunnel to the south, from
the Central Bridge to the Johanneshov
Bridge. In 2000, serious damage was
discovered to the concrete in the tunnel,
caused by road salt getting into the wall’s
reinforcement. Water was leaking in and
